Emotional Wellness is the ability to develop the awareness and acceptance of your own feelings,  have an optimistic approach to things,  and to be able to enjoy life regardless of the ups and downs that you may experience. It is important to be emotionally healthy because it allows us you to be able to express and manage your feelings in a positive way regardless of the stress caused by the situation, maintain rewarding relationships, and the ability to deal with conflict. Emotional Wellness is always growing and changing with you and the stages in your life.

Here is a link to a quick test that measures the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. This is a good assessment to see what areas you maybe struggling in so you can make changes.

There are many thing you can do it enchase your emotional wellness. Somethings are:

  • Don’t dismiss your feelings accept them
  • Be more acceptable of other people and their feelings
  • Take responsibility of your actions
  • Handle conflict with others in a way that the problem is resolved and both parties can walk away feeling that they were heard and understood.
  • Write in a journal or a reflection notebook
  • Have a strong social network filled with meaningful relationships
  • Seek support from friends, family, and other support services if needed

Places you can go and call if you feel like you are over your head and need help are:

  • A counseling center
  • Call a crisis helpline
  • Hospital/Clinic

Remember it is never hurts to ask for help. If you are struggling with something find a source that you feel comfortable with to help you understand and deal with the situation. Bottling up emotions and feelings only will lead to more problems down the road. Deal with things as they come to you and in the end you will feel more at peace and comfortable with yourself and your surroundings.

    1. Thank you! All so true. I think my favorite tip is number 6 “take responsibility for yourself” I have a friend that never takes responsibility for their actions it is always someone else’s problem and they are the most unhappiest person.
